  1. coupleFocus on the most important 5% of your life.  The rest will get taken care of as long as you don’t ignore it.  But life is lived by staying focused on the prize.
  2. Avoid crappy people.  You know who they are in your life and they totally drag you down. AVOID THEM AT ALL COST.
  3. It takes 43 muscles to frown and 13 to smile.  If you want to be lazy, smile more.
  4. Do what you do best and hand off the stuff you do not.  Leverage your time and do the things that move you forward and outsource everything else.
  5. Spend time with your parents.  Seriously.  I’m thankful to my parents for so many things.  I bust their chops something fierce.  Especially since they have started coming to the gym.  I always say to my participants that every client is exactly the same when they are within my four walls.  Being my mom or dad is no exception and it leads to a lot of laughs.  I am glad they are around.
  6. You cannot “ever” be everything to everyone.  Find what you are good at and have a passion for and get at it.  Life’s too short.
  7. Pay it Forward. One of the best movies ever.  It should be a way of life.  Random acts of kindness are so important and when you do something, anything without expecting anything in return, the universe will make sure you get paid back two fold.
  8. No one is entitled to anything.  You must practice what you preach and you must work for what you want.
  9. Just when you think the end is near it is really just a new beginning.  I learned this when I graduated the 8th grade.  I have never forgotten it.  Because you never know when you are just one more step away from your ultimate success.
  10. dollar-signCharge what you’re worth. This has been a tough lesson for me to learn.  I don’t always do it, but I have spent a long time becoming a highly respected trainer and motivator.  Never undervalue yourself.  If I undervalue myself how can I expect people to respect me?  I can then give back in so many other ways.
  11. Be the solution to a specific problem and solve it.  When you do that then you have created something which is tangible.  Doctors help people get better, teachers educate, I help people look and feel better about themselves.  What problem can you solve or need can you meet?
  12. Never lie, cheat, or steal.  There is no easy path to anything and you will get yourself no where fast.  Remember that universe thing from before?  Just reverse it.
  13. Keep your word ALWAYS.
  14. Think big, dream big, and live in abundance.  It’s a way of life as well as a mindset.  There’s enough for everyone so go get your share.
  15. Read two books a month. (This is a tough one for me but I respect everyone who does this.  I will keep trying.)
  16. Seek out speed of implementation and buy it if you have to.  Don’t be one of those people who watches late night TV and says “I thought of that product years ago.”  Snooze you lose, right?  Specialized information has never been as easy to get as it is today.  All you gotta do is invest in the stuff and you’ll buy yourself years of speed.
  17. targetReady – shoot – aim.  NOT Ready, aim, shoot.  If it doesn’t make sense to you read it again.
  18. Action always beats out knowledge – period.  Knowledge is not power.  Knowledge APPLIED is where the results come from.
  19. Don’t wait for perfect.  Perfect will never happen.
  20. Model successes, study others, and learn from those who have come before you and have already done it right.
  21. You need to take a break sometimes.  Time off to decompress is essential.  (Still working on this one too.)
  22. If you have an opportunity, try it once.  New things are awesome.
  23. Network often.  Learn how to get around a room and meet people.  It is a learned trait.  So if you are not naturally good at it, learn it.  We have all heard it… It’s not WHAT you know; it’s WHO you know, and how THEY feel about you.
  24. Ask for help. No man (or woman) is an island.  (Thank god I learned this one!  I know I can’t do it all.)
  25. Look for people you can learn from, people you admire, and aspire to be like people who are already where you want to be.
  26. Anyone can talk a good game.  Less talk more action.  Just get it done because “the proof is in the pudding.”
  27. stretchingExercise.  PERIOD.  Not only your body, but your mind, your will, your patience.  Nothing should be ignored.  Some of the best business ideas come when you are working out.  When you release endorphins in to the blood stream you alter your state-of-mind which leads to creativity.
  28. Repel negativity.  It is all around you.  You know the “woe is me” people, the tire kickers, the people who can’t (actually won’t) afford what you’re selling.  Develop the skill to size them up quickly and politely say “thanks, but no thanks” and encourage them to move on.  You are having none of it.
  29. Time is one of your most valuable commodities.  There is only so much of it to go around and there are way too many leeches trying to take it.
  30. Listen.  Don’t “wait until it’s your turn to speak”… actually listen.  I see it every day in my gym.  People are so intent in asking their question that they don’t listen.  They have no idea I already answered their question.
  31. Be humble.
  32. Know what you want.  Not how to get what everyone else wants.  AND especially not what everyone wants you to be.  What do YOU want?
  33. Be unique and original.  I am not telling you that you should go out and get tattoos, piercings or something that is not really who you are inside.  But figure out what sets you apart from others.
  34. gold-clockIf you have a good idea… ACT ON IT.  Don’t think about, bounce it off others, or get to it later.  There is no better time.
  35. I didn’t understand this one until recently, but you need to understand how money moves… because it’s always moving… to… or away from you.
  36. Life is not a trial run.  Be happy.  Miserable sucks.
  37. Another coaching analogy, Practice doesn’t make perfect.  Perfect Practice makes perfect.  Don’t ever half ass it.
  38. What’s the worst that can happen?  Think about it.

Because Bobby said to do it, of course

    “balance” is the real objective

I am copying this as a reminder, along with other things I forget that balance in life is essential to life itself.

Thanks, Bobby, for sharing your thoughts. Made me think of how a number of ’sayings’ are really backwards or negative. One should be corrected to ‘Invention is the mother of necessity’. The best one I never forget is the title of a PhD thesis ‘You Eat What You Are’. Made some fascinating reading for me. Was dumb enough to lend it to someone who moved away and I never got it back.

I lived in the Pacific North West most of my life, settled in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea some six years ago. I’m now 71 years young (always called a liar when I admit it and thankful for that) and go to the gym six days a week.

Enjoy your contributions and thanks for sharing.

    Practice gratitude.

Plan for the future, but be flexible enough to changes plans as you go.

Laugh a lot and cry as needed.

Always be Kind. If you have a choice between being right and being kind…choose kindness.

Live in the moment. It’s the only tme we really have.

“Teach your children well…” – now my challenge is how to successfully teach my kids all of the above and to be accountable for themselves. When the question is “how did the cheese get on floor?” the answer is not, “it wasn’t me” when there’s no one else in the room. Knowledge, power, motivation; they all start so simply at home and we easily forget the little sponges constantly learning from us.

Although, I am a big fan of “Because Bobby said to do it”.

Thanks, Bobby!! I’d add “39. Whatever it is you want to do, start NOW.” The fear of getting started is what prevents most people from attempting new endeavors. This applies to businesses, families, exercise programs, etc.

To feel good you need to eat well – try to eat foods as close to nature as possible.

Don’t overthink. Make a decision and move on.

Focus on the big picture and stay out of your own way.

In the midst of the hectic pace of life, the goal setting, the looking forward to what you want to happen, take time EVERY SINGLE DAY to be grateful for what you have (have accomplished, have experienced, have seen, heard or touched).

These are great! I really like numbers 1, 8, 30 and 38. Number one is appropriately numbered as it really deals with proper life balance. Too often we get busy with stuff and neglect the important, lasting parts of our life, ex. God, family and our health. Thirty-eight is also huge. Too many people worry about everything. Stopping and thinking about the worst thing that could happen and then think about how to deal with it would be far more productive and would help give them a sense of empowerment instead of the worry and fear. “Be the Best!”
